GENERAL PURPOSE OF CURING COMPOUNDS FOR FRESH CONCRETE

• To form a film covering the surface of concrete to prevent premature water loss due to evaporation
• Allow the concrete to cure with complete hydration of cement and achieve maximum properties.

ANTISOL E
  • Emulsified paraffin based curing compound.
  • Ready to use
  • Very effective particularly on horizontal surfaces even subject to windy and sunny conditions
  • Shall be removed prior application of subsequent surface treatment
ANTISOL S
  • Aqueous concrete curing silicate solution
  • Ready to use
  • Particularly used for the treatment of vertical concrete surface
  • Does not impair adhesion of subsequent treatments to concrete surface (when applied within recommended dosage rates)

How to check the quality of portland cement at site


Checking the quality of cement at site is very important because cement is the most important material in the construction side. The Portland cement work like a binder between cement and aggregates. The poor quality of cement effect the strength of the concrete or mortar. So maintaining the proper quality is very important at site.
To check the physical Quality of cement we perform 6 test on cement.
  1. Cement Color Test.
  2. Rubbing Test on cement.
  3. Floating Test on cement.
  4. Cement Strength Test.
  5. Shape Test.
  6. To check the packing date of cement.

CEMENT COLOR TEST:

The color of the Portland cement should be uniform at site. The best and preferable color of cement is Grey and the color look like greenish type shade. The color of cement give us a rough estimate of the cement quality means cement has excess lime or excess clay. If any one cement composition quantity is more according to the design the cement color doesn’t look like perfect in greenish shade. 

RUBBING TEST:

The rubbing test is the another physical test which perform at site. In this rubbing test we take small amount of cement in our hand and we rub it by using our fingers. If the cement give us a smooth texture while rubbing it means cement is good (Because cement substances size is too small and cement finesse) and if cement give us a rough texture it means cement quality id not good.  


FLOAT TEST:

In this float test we took a small amount of cement in our hand and throw them into a small water carrying bowl. If cement float on the water the quality of the cement is not good because cement substance are more in weight and they must sink in to the water. If cement sink it indicate the cement quality is good.

STRENGTH TEST:

The strength test is performed on the crushing machine. In this test we take a cement cube having a dimension 25 mm x 25 mm x 200 mm. The cube is put into the water for at latest 7 days for curing purpose and then we check the strength of the cube. The good cement must resist the load at least 340 N without failure.


SHAPE TEST:

In this test we took 100 gram of the cement and we add some amount of water into the cement and make a cement plastic paste. After mating the cement past we put them into the small glass water bowl and note the cement particles while cement is sitting. If the particles are disturbed during sitting. It indicate that cement is not good because cement has a ability to attain the desire strength in water.

PACKING DATE:

By viewing the cement bag packing date we also get the rough idea about the strength of cement because cement will reduce there strength as time passes. The cement is not stored more then 3 months. If Cement was 3 months or more old it should be tested first and then use at the site.



HOW TO CHECK THE QUALITY OF SAND AT SITE




Sand which is also known as fine aggregate. To maintain or check the quality of sand at site is very important because sand is most widely use material in the civil engineering construction works. So maintain the quality of cement at site is very important.
To check the quality of sand at site, we mainly prefer some physical test instead of laboratories tests because at site we don’t have much time. So mainly we perform 5  physical tests on sand at site.
  1. Clay Test.
  2. Organic impurities Test.
  3. Silt Test.
  4. Salt Test.
  5. Earthy Matters.

CLAY TEST:

The presence of clay in the sand effect the performance of the concrete strength. So the presence of clay in sand can be detected by doing two physical test on sand
  1. Take a some amount of sand in to your hand and drop it in to the glass which contain water. After drooping the sand than shake the glass. If clay is present in the sand it will make a separate layer above the water surface. So it indicate sand is not good.
  2. In another simple test take some amount of sand in your hand and then drop it. If sand stick in to you fingers it indicate the presence of clay in sand.

ORGANIC IMPURITIES TEST:

To detect the organic impurities in the sand, you may perform this test.
  1. Take some amount of sand and drop it in to the solution of sodium hydroxide or you may use the solution of caustic soda both work same. After adding sand in to the solution then shake it. If the solution color appear to a brown it indicate the presence of organic impurities in the sand.

SILT TEST:

Basically presence of silt in the sand is very dangerous because silt reduce the strength of the concrete. To detect the silt presence we mainly perform this basic physical test on sand.
  1. Take a glass bowl and add some amount of sand into the bowl. After adding sand add some amount of water as well as salt into the bowl and then shake it well. After shaking it leave it for at least 24 hours. If silt is present it will make a separate layer above the sand layer.

SALT TEST:

To check the presence of salt in the sand we perform very simple and easy test.
  1. Take very little amount of sand and then taste it. If salts are present in sand it taste will be salty.

EARTHY MATTERS TEST:

The earthy matters are commonly mixed in the sand. So to check the presence of earthy matters in the sand we mainly perform this physical test.
  1. Take some amount of sand in your hand. After taking sand rub it by using your other hand. If light marks are appear in your hand it indicate the presence of clay
